Peterborough residents reclaim their neighbourhood streets with Pulse Pop-ups

Streets closed to cars and opened up for play, food, fun, and community togetherness.
It takes 2,650 litres of water to produce a single cotton t-shirt, and Canadians throw away more than 12 million tonnes of clothing and textiles every year, 95 per cent of which could be reused or recycled. It’s time to ‘fall’ in love with Peterborough’s Ecology Park

Stroll through the park and enjoy monarch butterflies, squirrels, honeybees, and changing leaves and seasonal blooms.
The Holy Cross Bee Club is a teacher-led group of 12 students who steward three hives at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Peterborough. At Myrtle's Kitchen at Peterborough Public Health on September 17, 2018, Holy Cross Bee Club member Emily Berardi uses a comb to uncap the honey cells in trays that were removed from the hives, before the trays are placed in a honey extractor to remove the honey using centrifugal force. Peterborough high school student beekeepers achieve sweet success

From uneaten leftovers to untouched fruits and vegetables to food that is forgotten, households waste more food than restaurants, hotels, stores, and farms combined. Around $1,500 worth of food per household gets thrown out every year -- around one out of six bags of groceries per week!

Many Peterborough businesses are going green

BE Catering, The Wine Shoppe on Park, and Engage Engineering are some of the businesses taking environmental actions.
Active and Safe Routes to School Peterborough is a group of local organizations addressing health and environmental issues related to school travel. The group has a vision for all students to have the opportunity to walk, roll, or bus to and from school as a part of their daily school experience.
