Family: Kawartha Conservation and Kawartha Lakes Public Library present "Sunflower House" Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area (277 Kenrei Road, Lindsay, K9V 4R2). A story walk is where pages of a book are posted on large signs stationed around a trail. Written by Eve Bunting and illustrated by Kathryn Hewitt, "Sunflower House" is a delightful rhyming story about the cycles of nature, the wonder of nature, and the power of determination no matter what age you are. A little boy plants sunflower seeds in the shape of a big circle, creating a house made out of sunflowers. All summer long the boy and his friends play in the sunflower house. As the seasons turn and the sunflowers fade, the boy gathers seeds to keep, Mother Nature shares some of the seeds with the birds, and some wait on the ground to grow up again as spring comes back to us. The Story Walk Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area runs along the Pond Trail, which begins steps away from the main parking lot, right beside the off-leash dog park. Visitors can park at the main parking lot for $4 per day per vehicle. Cost: Free.
