Peterborough: A Different Shade of Green
Some people I know have had the opportunity to see different parts of the world that I’ll likely never venture to. My travel experience is admittedly small, but I’ve come to realize a remarkable characteristic about our little community that many of the cities I’ve visited lacked: we have an amazing amount of green space laced throughout this city. No matter where you go in Peterborough, you’re a short stone’s throw away from mature trees and grassy knolls. It’s clearly one of the things that makes Peterborough the gem that it is. However, green space seems to be on the cutting block in our area, with more and more trees coming down every week.
Stand Up Paddling
I’m a water girl.
That’s why I’ve never strayed far from my home in the “Land of Shining Waters” known as The Kawarthas.

BE at The Trend

It was Bonnie Kubica’s melon farmer who first approached her about taking over operations at The Trend, the downtown campus pub and restaurant of Catherine Parr Traill College. A local grower, Doug Evans supplies produce to Kubica at her Hunter Street West company, BE Catering.
“Doug is also the principal at Traill College,” Kubica, an experienced chef of more than 18 years, explains. “One day he just walked into the shop and asked me if I wanted to take over the running of The Trend. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind ever since.”
Sharing her passion for preparing locally grown food and drink, Simon Terry is Kubica’s partner in life who will join her in the day-to-day running of what is now BE at The Trend.
Peterborough’s Bleeding Heart?
This week brought bad news to Peterborough when it was announced that Baskin Robbins, which employs 80 people in their downtown production facility, would be closing this fall putting those 80 people out of work. The news came on the heels of the official word of the PCVS closure and the Federal Government disbanding it’s offices from the 185 King Street location to other offices throughout Peterborough.
