Canadian Canoe Museum selects six architects for design competition

The Canadian Canoe Museum has selected architects for the second stage of its competition to design a new facility at the Peterborough Lift Lock National Historic Site on the Trent-Severn Waterway.

Nursery school presents special challenge for toddler with neuroblastoma

Diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was an infant, Jake Ward received a battery of radiation and chemo treatments over the next year that wiped out his immune system, leaving him vulnerable to infection. After he started nursery school last fall at the age of two, Jake spent two weeks in the hospital when he was exposed to chicken pox, a potentially fatal disease for children with compromised immune systems.

Jake Ward started nursery school back in September and his first few months weren’t what most people would call typical.

Sure, there was the initial apprehension that comes between a toddler and his parents at the thought of parting for the day, and then there were the natural connections that evolved as he began to mingle with the other kids and the ladies who cared for the children.

Joanne won the Media Award for Television at the In Celebration of Women Awards in 2001. She grew up in Toronto and now lives in Peterborough, Ontario.

In Love in the Air: Second World War Letters, Joanne tells the wartime love story of her parents, 24-year-old Helen Reeder and 29-year-old Harry Culley.

Separated for two and a half years during the Second World War, Helen and Harry write about their experiences and emotions in their extensive correspondence, while deepening their mutual devotion.
