Our website still has all the same great content — including news and events from across The Kawarthas — that brings more than 110,000 unique readers to our site every month.

We’ve also reorganized our main sections to accommodate more news and features that will allow us to grow in line with our strategic plan.

We’re very proud of our new website and we hope you find it easier to navigate and to discover new and interesting stories.

Celebrate safely this summer by being fire smart in cottage country

Beautiful but potentially dangerous: sky lanterns being released during a religious celebration in Thailand. Some municipalities in Canada, including the City of Kawarthas Lakes, have banned the use of sky lanterns because of the risk of fire they create.

Is it possible that something so enchantingly pretty and peaceful to behold can pose a dire and very real threat to both person and property?

It’s July 1st, 2013 in Smethwick, West Midlands in England. A massive fire at a plastics and paper recycling plant burns widely out of control, causing an estimated £6 million worth of damage before it’s extinguished.

Kiefer Sutherland brings his country rock to Peterborough Musicfest

Without fail, the organizers of Peterborough’s annual Musicfest free summer concert series are good for at least one surprise when the lineup is revealed.

Such was the case on May 5th when, before an excited bunch gathered at the Silver Bean Café, it was announced that Kiefer Sutherland will headline the second concert of Musicfest’s 30th anniversary season at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29th at Del Crary Park.
